A three-time Pushcart Prize nominee, Mitch was a finalist in the 2021 Writers' Union of Canada's (TWUC) Short Prose Competition for Emerging Writers, was shortlisted for the 2022 J.F. Powers Prize for Short Fiction and is currently (May 2022) longlisted for the 2022 Humber Literary Review/CNFC Canada-wide Creative Nonfiction contest. The author is currently querying his debut novel following a "Mentorship Microgrant" sponsored by TWUC with Canadian novelist, playwright, poet, and educator Armin Wiebe. A collection of Mitchell's short stories is under consideration by a small press in Winnipeg. Mitchell Toews Jessica Lake, Manitoba Living on the original lands of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and on the homeland of the Métis Nation.
