Digging Press is an independent publisher with a strong commitment to fostering experimentation and cultural inclusion in the realms of literature and visual arts. We believe that diversity of voices and eclecticism are essential components of a vibrant creative landscape, and we provide a platform for such voices to thrive.
Founder Gessy Alvarez began Digging Through The Fat | ripping out the heart as a literary call to action in 2013. Initially a literary blog, Digging Through The Fat has grew as a literary and arts internet platform regularly publishing fiction, poetry, nonfiction, hybrid, and artists spotlights since 2014. Over the years, the journal has made vital connections with a diverse, artistic community of cross-genre writers and multidisciplinary artists from around the world and has sponsored several events throughout the New York City metro area.
In 2018, Digging Press LLC was established and a chapbook series award was introduced. At Digging Press, our mission is simple yet profound: to champion the power of diverse perspectives and artistic expressions. We actively seek out works that challenge the status quo, push boundaries, and open new dialogues. Our goal is to amplify the voices of underrepresented communities and artists, making the literary and visual arts more inclusive and dynamic.
Our in-house Creative Director takes great pride in meticulously designing each book we publish. We believe that a book is not just a vessel for words but a work of art. Our visually stunning designs ensure that every book we produce is not only a pleasure to read but also a visual representation of the author’s unique vision.
We understand that the publication process can be a daunting journey for authors. That’s why our dedicated Series Editor works closely with each author, providing personalized editorial support from inception to publication. We believe that every author’s voice is distinctive, and we are committed to preserving that uniqueness while enhancing the quality of their work.
