Submission Periods

Artist Spotlight – January 16 – March 31, 2024
Poetry, Flash Fiction, Short Stories, and Hybrid – TBA

Guidelines for Poets and Writers:

  • All rights revert to the author upon publication. If your original work is later reprinted elsewhere, we ask that you please note its first publication here.
  • Do not submit previously published work. We require first serial rights for accepted works. This includes work published on personal blogs and social media. Sorry. Simultaneous submissions are accepted as long as they are indicated as such and the submission is withdrawn from Submittable immediately upon acceptance elsewhere.
  • Literary Contributors receive a $15 honoraria for their selected work.
  • Given our seasonal genre format, we only accept a small percentage of the submissions received. We recommend contributors promote published work on their social media accounts. We promote all publications on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. We also feature publications in our monthly newsletter.

Guidelines for Artist Spotlight (Visual Artists):

  • Visual artists should submit via Submittable:
    • a link to their online portfolio (Instagram, website, web page, etc.)
    • a short bio
    • artist statement
    • and three high-resolution .jpeg images that best represent their body of work
  • Please DO NOT email submissions.
  • We have a limited amount of space but will consider every submission.
  • Open only to visual artists.
  • Last day to submit is March 31, 2024.

The length of time between acceptance and publication can be three to four months. For chapbooks, the length of time between acceptance and publication can be one to two years.

We shall do our best to respond to submitters within three-four months, but in some cases, this period may be longer. If you have not received a response from us within 120 days, please send an email inquiry to editor@diggingpress.com.

Best of luck!

Please do not assume that a decline from us means your work is not valid in any way. We simply are unable to accommodate everyone. Our publication decisions are bittersweet. We have to decline a great number of good folks in order to give a few more time to gain a larger audience.

Accepted works will be promoted in our online journal, and at our FacebookTwitter, and Instagram accounts.

With permission from our contributors, we may include accepted works in promotional material for Digging Through The Fat and Digging Press, LLC.

We rely on donations and individual purchases to support our mission.  We appreciate any support you can give.

Please note: we offer free U.S.-only shipping with purchases through Submittable. International orders can only be fulfilled at our shop here.

DiggingPress.com (Digging Press and Digging Through The Fat) is a fiscally sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a 501(c)(3) charity. Contributions made payable to Fractured Atlas for the purposes of DiggingPress.com are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

  1. I would like to submit the link of my poetry blog three by 3 to the Community sector. I realize that the deadline was March 23 but hope there is a grace period. If not, please advise advise the dates of the next opening. Thank you.

    1. We had an overwhelming response to our Community call. We will be reviewing submissions over the next month or so. I suggest you wait for the next call, which will be after September. Thank you so much.

  2. I submitted 2 links for Community page March 3rd. Just checking that they are still in the consideration process. Thanks.

    1. Hi Steven,
You should receive notification before the end of this month. So sorry for the delay. We like to publish about 10 – 12 writers per post.
Thanks so much for your patience.
      Sincerely,
      Gessy Alvarez

  3. Hey there! My story “Jingping” was part of Community No. 18, but the link you put up goes to a different story in the same journal. It’s not a bad one, but could you change the hyperlink so it goes to mine? Thanks, -F

    1. Fixed!

  4. My debut novel, ‘The Religion of Self-Enlightenment’, has been
declared “a cult sensation” which is “selling out across the region”
by the Cambridge News. I am wondering if you could review or feature
it in your magazine? It took me ten years to write and gets straight
to the heart of the matter with regards to religious confusion.

My website, emilyscialom.com, should tell you more.

    1. Congratulations, Emily. We are currently closed for book reviews but will add you to our list. Thanks for inquiring.

  5. I know I’ve submitted experimental fiction here before, but I’ve no clue if it was ever published. Too much to keep track of. Glad I found you again!
